Description
Spinny Insurance is Spinny's car insurance business, covering everything from the pages customers compare and buy policies on to the internal tools the insurance team runs it with. On the customer side, it guides buyers from the insurance home page through listings and product pages to live quotes. Behind the scenes, an Insurance CRM brings agents' leads, calls, WhatsApp conversations, rosters and refunds into one place, so the team can sell, support and service policies from a single tool.
Tech Stack
Frontend: Typescript, Javascript, React, Redux Toolkit, NextJS, Zustand, shadcn/ui, TailwindCSS.
Backend: Python, Fast API, Pusher, Server-Sent Events, Redis, Kafka.
DevOps: Docker, AWS S3, AWS Cloudfront.
Database: MongoDB, PostgreSQL.
Responsibilities
Lead the vendor migration of the insurance customer journey across the home, listing and product pages.
Build streaming quotes across the backend and the client.
Improve the insurance home page's load performance.
Integrate analytics and performance monitoring across the journey.
Lead the development of the Insurance CRM used by the insurance agents.
Build role-based access control, a roster module and a communication module for the CRM.
Build an end-to-end refund workflow.
Drive code reviews and mentor engineers on frontend standards.
Impact
Led the vendor migration end to end, rebuilding the home, listing and product pages on reusable component systems, which made the journey faster to iterate on and consistent across pages.
Built streaming quotes using Server-Sent Events across the backend and the client, cutting the wait for the first quote by around 10 seconds.
Reduced the insurance home page's server-rendered document from about 450KB to 97KB, a 78% cut, by moving inline illustrations to cacheable images.
Integrated analytics and performance monitoring, so production issues and journey drop-offs now surface on their own instead of through user reports.
Led the development of the Insurance CRM in React, Zustand and shadcn/ui, now used daily by more than 250 agents.
Built role-based access control for the CRM, so each role sees and does only what it should.
